Description

Super transparent sealant and adhesive Sikaflex 112 Crystal Clear by Sika

Sikaflex 112 Crystal Clear is a 1-ingredient, multi-application, super clear adhesive and sealant with good initial "grab" (initial adhesion/adhesion strength). It is suitable for exterior and interior sealing and bonding applications on most common construction materials.

Benefits

  • Transparent
  • Good initial grip
  • CE marked adhesive-sealer
  • Particularly low emission

Features

  • Composition Polymeric termination in silanes
  • Density ~1,05 kg/l (ISO 1183-1)
  • Shore A hardness ~48 (after 28 days) (ISO 868)
  • Tensile strength ~2,5 N/mm2 (ISO 37)
  • Tear propagation resistance ~4,0 N/mm (ISO 34)
  • Operating temperature -40 °C minimum / +70 °C maximum

Joint design

The joint shall be designed to suit the mobility of the sealant. The width of the joint shall be between ≥ 6 mm and ≤ 20 mm. A ratio of width to depth of approximately 2:1 shall be maintained. Joints ≤ 10 mm wide are generally intended for shrinkage control and are therefore considered to be non-mobile joints.

Application

  • Substrate Preparation - The substrate must be cohesive, clean, dry and free from all contaminants such as oils, grease, cement laitance, old sealants, old inadequately bonded paints, which could adversely affect the adhesive/sealant adhesion. The substrate must be of sufficient strength to withstand the stresses exerted during the mobility of the sealant.
  • Recommended dirt removal techniques that may be used are: wire brushing, scrubbing or other suitable mechanical means. Dust, loose and loosely adhering particles should be completely removed from all surfaces prior to the application of activators, primers or the adhesive/sealer itself.
  • For optimum adhesion, sealant durability and for critical, high performance applications, the following primers and/or treatment techniques should be followed:
    • Non-porous substrates - Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, electrostatic metal paints and glazed tile should be lightly abraded with a fine abrasive cloth. Clean and prepare using Sika® Aktivator-205 applied with a clean cloth. Before bonding/sealing, allow a drying time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Other metals, such as copper, brass and zinc-titanium alloys, should be cleaned and prepared using Sika® Aktivator-205 applied with a clean cloth. After observing a drying time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours) apply Sika® Primer-3 N with a brush. Allow an additional waiting time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours) before bonding/sealing. PVC substrates should be cleaned and prepared using Sika® Primer-215 applied by brush. Observe a drying time of > 15 minutes (< 8 hours) before bonding/sealing.
    • Porous substrates - Concrete, aerated concrete, cementitious base mortars and coatings, brick, should be primed with Sika® Primer-3 N applied by brush. Before bonding/sealing, observe a waiting time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours).
  • Removal of fresh residues from application tools and equipment can be carried out using Sika® Remover-208. Cured and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically. For skin cleaning use Sika® Cleaning Wipes-100.
  • Support material Use only closed-cell polyethylene support laces
  • Hanging flow 0 mm (20 mm profile, 23 °C) (ISO 7390)
  • Ambient temperature +5 °C minimum / +40 °C maximum
  • Substrate temperature +5 °C minimum / +40 °C maximum, at least 3 °C above dew point
  • Curing rate ~3 mm/24 hours (23 °C / 50 % S.W.) Sika Corporate Quality Procedure (CQP 049-2)
  • Skin building time ~30 min (23 °C / 50 % S.W.) (CQP 019-1)
