Description

HIGH TEMPERATURE SILICONE SEALANT

Sikasil®-400 Heat Sealant is a 1-component sealant with high temperature resistance.

  • Resistant up to 270 °C long term and up to 300 °C short term
  • Fast ripening
  • High flexibility from −40 to +230 °C

Uses

As a sealant for application to construction elements, exposed to heat, such as:

  • High performance flanges
  • Oven doors for industrial and domestic use
  • Metal chimneys
  • Wiring systems
  • Heating devices

Advantages

  • Resistant up to 270 °C long term and up to 300 °C short term
  • Fast ripening
  • High flexibility from −40 to +230 °C
  • In red shade for easy identification of the application

Application

Substrate Preparation - The substrate must be sound, clean, dry, free of all contaminants such as oils, grease, cement laitance, old sealants and loosely adhered paint that could affect the adhesion of the sealant/adhesive. The substrate must have sufficient strength to receive the stresses that the sealant will exert during mobility. Cleaning techniques such as wire brushing, sandpaper or other mechanical means/equipment may be adopted. Dust, loose and loose materials shall be completely removed from all surfaces prior to the application of activators, primers and sealants.

Sikasil 400 Heat Sealant is applied without primers and/or activators. However, for optimum adhesion, sealing durability and critical or high performance applications, the following primers and/or priming methods should be applied.

  • Non-porous substrates - Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, PVC, galvanized steel, electrostatic metal paints or glazed tiles should be lightly abraded with a fine abrasive cloth. Clean the surface and activate it using Sika Aktivator-205, applied to a clean cloth. Before sealing, observe a waiting time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours).
  • Other metals such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc alloys should be cleaned and primed using Sika Aktivator-205 applied to a clean cloth. Observe a waiting time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Apply Sika Primer-3 N with a brush. Allow an additional waiting time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours) before sealing. PVC substrates should be cleaned and prepared by applying Sika Aktivator-205 on a clean cloth. Before sealing, allow a waiting time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours).

Note: Primers are adhesion promoters. They are in no way a substitute for proper cleaning/preparation of the substrate, nor do they significantly improve the strength of the substrate.Primers improve the long-term performance of a sealed joint.

Masking - The use of masking tape is recommended where precise joint lines are required.Remove the tape within the skin build-up time and after finishing the sealer surface.

Backing material - After required substrate preparation, insert suitable backing cord to the required depth.

Priming - Prime joint surfaces as required in accordance with the substrate preparation procedure. Avoid applying excessive amounts of primer, as this will cause the primer to pool at the base of the joint.

Application - Prepare the tip of the primer before or after inserting it into a suitable application gun and then adjust the Nozzle. Extrude Sikasil 400 Heat Sealant into the joint, ensuring that it is in full contact with the joint faces, avoiding air entrapment.

Finishing - Immediately after application is complete, the sealant should be finished by pressing it against the sides of the joint, applying sufficient pressure and ensuring a smooth finish. Use a compatible surface finishing product (e.g. Sika Tooling Agent N) for the surface of the sealant. Do not use products containing solvents.

Removal of fresh residues from tools and application equipment can be carried out using Sika Remover-208. Cured and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically. For skin cleaning, use Everbuild Wonder Wipes.
