Description

Self-adhesive Asphaltic Sealing Tape Sika MultiSeal

Sika MultiSeal is a self-adhesive, asphalt-based sealing tape, coated with aluminium or copper foil and reinforced with polyester film on the upper side.

Advantages

  • Very easy to apply
  • Can be applied at low temperatures
  • Good adhesion to many substrates of construction
  • Resistant to environmental ageing
  • Very good thermal stability
  • Resistant to UV radiation
  • Self-adhesive
  • Can be painted

Features

  • Recommendation Asphaltic tape, coated with polyester reinforcement and a final layer of metallic film (aluminium or copper)
  • Thickness ~1,5 mm (including metal film) (DIN EN 1849-1)
  • Tensile strength Aluminium cladding: Longitudinal ≥ 200 N/50 mm Transverse ≥ 200 N/50 mm Copper cladding: Longitudinal ≥ 400 N/50 mm Transverse ≥ 400 N/50 mm
  • UV resistance The coating of the aluminium/copper film provides UV resistance.
  • Operating temperature -20 °C minimum / +70 °C maximum

Application

  • Substrate Preparation - The substrate must be firm, clean, dry and free from all contaminants such as oils, grease, cement laitance, old sealers and loosely adhered old paints which could adversely affect the adhesion of the film. The substrate must have sufficient strength to withstand the stresses that the tape will exert on it in the event of mobility. Techniques such as wire brushing, mechanical sanding or other suitable equipment may be adopted to prepare the substrate. Dust, loose and loose materials shall be completely removed from all surfaces prior to the application of activators, primers or the tape itself.
  • Sika MultiSeal tainum generally has good adhesion without primers/activators to most clean, dry and compact substrates. A compatible bituminous primer can be applied to improve adhesion.
  • For optimum results, the following procedure should be followed:
    • Non-porous substrates - Metals, plastics, painted surfaces, glazed tiles and similar surfaces should be cleaned and prepared by applying Sika Aktivator-205 on a clean cloth. Before applying the film, allow a waiting time of > 15 minutes (maximum 6 hours).
    • Porous substrates - On concrete, aerated concrete and cementitious based plasters, bricks, mortars, etc. the tape may be pre-heated to increase adhesion.
  • Ambient temperature +5 °C minimum / +40 °C maximum
  • Substrate temperature +5 °C minimum / +40 °C maximum, at least 3 °C above dew point
