Recommendation

  • Density ~1.05 kg/lt (at +20°C) pH value ~10 Viscosity ~20 mPa.s (Brookfield RVT, spindle 2, 100 rpm, 23°C)
  • Penetration depth Project test results and experimental tests have shown that Sika FerroGard 903 Plus can penetrate into concrete at a rate of a few millimetres per day and to a depth of approximately 25 to 40 mm in 1 month. This penetration rate may be shorter or slower depending on the porosity of the concrete
  • Sika FerroGard 903 Plus penetrates by diffusion mechanisms in both liquid and gas phase
  • Observation: If after application , the concrete surface is covered (painted/coated) with protective coatings (cement-based, acrylic, impregnation) or hydrophobic impregnation agents, the diffusion rate of the inhibitor is reduced but not stopped, as the diffusion mechanism proceeds exclusively in the gas phase
  • As concrete quality and permeability vary, it is recommended to perform preliminary surface depth tests to estimate the specific penetration rate according to Sika's Application Methodology "Qualitative Analysis of Sika FerroGard 903 Plus" (Reference No. 850 33 04)

Application

  • Sika FerroGard 903 Plus is ready for use and should not be diluted
  • Do not shake before use
  • Sika FerroGard 903 Plus should be applied to saturation by brushing or spraying using a brush, roller or spray equipment (low pressure)
  • After the last coat has been applied and when the surface has a matt appearance, dampen with low pressure water (hose water)
  • On the next day of application, the treated surface should be cleaned with water under pressure (~10 MPa - 100 bars) to remove traces of soluble salts that may have been deposited on the surface
  • Number of layers - Depends on the porosity and moisture content of the substrate, as well as the prevailing weather conditions. Vertical surfaces: Usually 2 to 3 coats are necessary to ensure the required consumption. In the case of denser concrete, additional layers may be required. Horizontal surfaces: Apply in 1-2 coats, taking care not to stagnate the material
  • Waiting time between coats: Depends on the porosity of the concrete and climatic conditions. Usually 1-6 hours is sufficient. Allow the surface to dry between coats until a matt appearance is achieved
  • Coating - Where application is carried out as described in the sections above, no additional treatment is required prior to coating with Sikagard range of hydrophobic impregnation products, Sikagard range of breathable protection paints or Sikafloor range of flooring systems. (Refer to the relevant Product Specification Sheets for application details)
  • If Sika coatings are not applicable, please contact the supplier/manufacturer's technical department to confirm compatibility with FerroGard 903 Plus or take responsibility for field compatibility and adhesion testing
  • When Sika FerroGard 903 Plus is used as part of a repair system or prior to the coating of cementitious base materials, Sika repair systems may be used, necessarily following the standard substrate wetting preparation
  • When additional coatings are required over Sika FerroGard 903 Plus for porosity sealing, smoothing, waterproofing apply products such as Sika MonoTop 621 Evolution, Sikagard 720 EpoCem or Sika MonoSeal 101 H, SikaTop Seal 107 FL-X, Sikalastic 1K
  • Cementitious-based levelling mortars should only be applied if the substrate is of open structure and entirely free of residues
  • If other Sika cementitious base products are used, field tests are recommended to confirm preparation and suitability
  • If Sika cementitious base products are not used, please contact the supplier/manufacturer's technical department to confirm compatibility with FerroGard 903 Plus or take responsibility for field testing of compatibility and adhesion
  • Removal of fresh residues from tools and application equipment can be carried out using water. Hardened and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically.
